Qadian–Beas Railway Line Revived After Nearly 100 Years
- The Government of India has revived the historic Qadian–Beas Railway Line Project in Punjab, ending a delay of nearly a century.
- The 39.68-km broad-gauge corridor will connect Qadian and Beas through key towns including Dhapai, Ghuman, Butala, and Sathiala.
- The project includes major and minor bridges, Road Under Bridges, modern signalling infrastructure, and the Kavach safety system.
- Besides improving regional rail connectivity, the line will serve as an alternative route to the Amritsar–Pathankot section, boost tourism by improving access to religious destinations, and support economic development across Punjab’s Majha region.

- Bharat Buildcon 2026 was inaugurated at Yashobhoomi Convention Centre, New Delhi, under the theme “One Nation, One Expo.”

QS World University Rankings 2027: India Rises to 5th Spot Globally

RBI Cancels Licence of Karnataka’s Shree Mahalaxmi Co-operative Credit Bank
- The Reserve Bank of India has cancelled the licence of Karnataka-based Shree Mahalaxmi Urban Co-operative Credit Bank due to its weak financial condition, inadequate capital, and inability to repay depositors fully.
- Following the cancellation, the bank has been barred from conducting banking operations, while the Registrar of Co-operative Societies has been directed to begin winding-up proceedings.
- To protect customers, the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (DICGC) will provide insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per depositor. Nearly 98% of depositors are expected to receive their entire insured deposits, ensuring protection of public interest and financial stability.
HDFC Bank Extends Keki Mistry’s Tenure as Interim Chairman by 3 Months
- HDFC Bank has received RBI approval to extend the tenure of Keki Mistry as interim part-time chairman for an additional three months.
- He will continue in the position until 18 September 2026 or until a permanent chairman is appointed.
- The extension comes after the resignation of former chairman Atanu Chakraborty in March 2026. Mistry, a veteran of the HDFC Group, was initially appointed on an interim basis to ensure continuity in governance.
