In this article, we present to you one such lady who has changed the way of people looking at commercial pilots. Yes, we are talking about none other than Captain Prem Mathur. A lady with conviction and optimism who beat the world norms.

She went onto become a commercial pilot when people use to have the notion that women are meant to be at home and take care of their kids Captain Prem Mathur not only break this notion but also became the first Indian woman commercial pilot. Let’s have a look at her undying spirit and hard work.

About Captain Prem Mathur

Captain Prem Mathur was born in Allahabad and obtained her commercial pilot license in 1947 from Allahbad Flying Club. Initially, when she started applying for different commercial airlines, all of them rejected her stating the reason that women cannot handle emergencies or passengers wouldn’t be comfortable with a woman Pilot. But all of this didn’t break her, instead she started working harder and finally received a positive reply from Deccan Airlines. In Deccan airlines, she cleared all sorts of technical exams and interviews and was hired as a co-pilot. She won the National Air Race in 1949. She flew high-profile people like Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and Lady Mountbatten and many more.

She with her conviction not only completed her dream but also inspired other women to take up their dreams seriously and to not give up so easily because society thinks they cannot do it.
