Today, we will be talking about one such lady who has recently been featured by TIME among ‘100 Women of the Year’ Rajkumari Bibiji Amrit Kaur for the year 1947 in special covers recreated by the publication

About Rajkumai Bibiji Amrit Kaur

Amrit Kaur, a young princess completed her education from Oxford and returned to India in 1918 and soon became fascinated by Mahatma Gandhi’s teachings. Born into the royal family of Kapurthala, Rajkumari Kaur “decided her life’s mission was to help India break free from its colonial ties and oppressive societal norms.”

In 1927, She founded the All India Women Conference. Later on, she was appointed as the secretary of All India Women’s Conference and then its president. Kaur also served as the chairperson of All India Women’s Education Fund Association. She was a prominent member of the executive committee of Lady Irwin College in New Delhi. And She attended the UNESCO conference in London and Paris in 1945 and 1946 as a member of the Indian delegation. She was  a member of the Board of Trustees of the All India Spinners’ Association. She worked intensively to eradicate the Child Marriages and the Purdah System for women, which were prevalent in the Indian society then.

We salute Rajkumari Bibiji Amrit Kaur for her contribution to eradicate the social evils from the Indian society.
