1. Dept of Integrative Medicine Inaugurated at Safdarjung Hospital by Union Health Minister

  • Union Minister of Ayush Sarbananda Sonowal and Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya jointly inaugurated the Integrative Medicine Centre at Safdarjung Hospital.
  • Minister of State for Health, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, and Minister of State for Ayush, Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai Kalubhai, and Secretary Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha were also present on the occasion.
  • All India Institute of Ayurveda, New Delhi signed MoU with All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi which is also on the same lines as Safdarjung Hospital.
  • Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya informed that the central government is working towards setting up a separate wing for integrative medicine.
  • It is an approach that combines conventional medicine with traditional treatments, in all medical colleges and hospitals.

2. ‘Operation Dost’: India went All Out To Help Quake-Hit Turkey, Syria

  • As part of “Operation Dost,” India is deploying a field hospital, supplies, and rescue personnel to the earthquake-stricken countries of Turkey and Syria.
  • A 7.8-magnitude earthquake that occurred on Monday while people were asleep destroyed thousands of buildings, trapped an undetermined number of people, and may have affected millions of people.
  • Time is running out for the thousands of injured people and others who are still believed to be trapped, World Health Organization director Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus cautioned.
  • 9,500 people have now died as a result of the earthquake.
  • Adana witnessed the landing of a fourth Indian Air Force C17 bearing aid for Turkey’s earthquake victims.
  • India has received criticism from Turkey for being overly generous in aiding the nation following the devastating earthquake.

3. Nearly 600 sea lions die due to bird flu outbreak in Peru

  • Peru reported the death of 585 sea lions and 55,000 wild birds due to the H5N1 bird flu virus in recent weeks.
  • Following the discovery of 55,000 dead birds in eight protected coastal areas, rangers found the bird flu that killed them had also claimed 585 sea lions in seven protected marine areas, the Sernanp natural areas protection agency said.
  • The dead birds included pelicans, various types of gulls, and penguins, the Sernanp said in a statement. Laboratory tests also confirmed the presence of H5N1 in the dead sea lions, prompting the authorities to announce a “biological vigilance protocol.”
  • For its part, Peru’s National Forest and Wildlife Service (SERFOR) urged people and their pets to avoid contact with sea lions and sea birds on the beach.

5. India Received Highest ever Foreign Inward Remittances in a single year of $89,127 million in FY 2021-22

  • During 2021-22, India received foreign inward remittances of USD 89,127 million which was the highest ever inward remittances received in a single year. This was stated by Union Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha.
  • The World Bank defines remittance as the sum of worker’s remittances, compensation of employees, and migrants’ transfers as recorded in the IMF Balance of Payments.
  • Workers remittances are current transfers by migrant who are considered residents in the source.
  • Remittances are a vital source of household income for low and middle income countries.

6. RBI announces pilot for QR code-based Coin Vending Machine

  • Shaktikanta Das, the governor of the RBI, announced that a pilot programme to introduce coin vending machines that use QR codes will begin shortly.
  • In response to the outcome of the monetary policy for the year 2023, the Central Bank Governor announced that the RBI will introduce a coin vending machine that uses a QR code to improve accessibility to coins.
  • The pilot project is planned to be initially rolled out at 19 locations in 12 cities across the country.
  • These vending machines are intended to be installed at public places such as railway stations, shopping malls, marketplaces to enhance ease and accessibility.

7. RBI expands scope of TReDS platform to allow insurance facility, secondary market ops & to improve cashflow of MSMEs

  • The Reserve Bank of India decided to expand the scope of the Trade Receivable Discounting System or the TReDS platform allowing the use of insurance facilities, permitting entities eligible to undertake factoring business to participate as financiers on TReDS and allowing secondary market operations on the platform.
  • The central bank’s decision is expected to boost trade of receivables increasing cash flows to MSMEs.
  • According to experts wider participation by more entities can keep the receivable discounting pricing under check as the volume on these platforms increases. Also, flexibility to allow re-discounting by existing holders of such discounted receivables will aid liquidity of participants.
  • Insurance coverage for the discounted receivables can also enhance the volumes and further reduce the pricing of such insured receivables, however the appetite of insurance companies to issue such coverage remains to be seen.
  • The expansion of the scope of TREDs platform serves to enhance the formalization of the lending eco-system for MSMEs.

  • With nearly 50 million users possessing one or more credit cards, this is a significant milestone in India’s drive towards a cashless economy.
  • With RuPay Credit Cards now linked directly to UPI IDs, MobiKwik’s customers can easily make payments to merchants by scanning the UPI QR code and using UPI PIN for payment authentication.

10. World Happiness Index 2023 Country Wise List

  • In these dark times, there is a glimmer of optimism revealed by the World Happiness Index 2023. The pandemic not only caused anguish and suffering, but it also led to a rise in social assistance and charitable giving.
  • Finland was named the world’s happiest country for the fifth year in a row, according to the World Happiness Report.
  • The Sustainable Development Solutions Network of the UN has published a new report, which was made public two days prior to the yearly International Day of Happiness.
  • It rates 150 countries (146 in 2023) based on factors such as GDP, life expectancy, and other indicators of quality of life.

11. Defence Ministry inks deal with L&T for procurement of 41 modular bridges

  • The Ministry of Defence on February 8 inked a contract with Larsen & Toubro (L&T) for the purchase of 41 indigenous modular bridges for the Corps of Engineers of the Indian Army, valued at over Rs 2,585 crore, providing a significant boost to the “Aatmanirbar Bharat” initiative. A modular bridge is made of quick-installing components that may be easily assembled on site.
    ● The Ministry of Defence stated in a statement that L&T, a DRDO-nominated production agency, will produce the bridges after they have been designed and developed by DRDO.
    ● Seven carrier vehicles based on 8×8 heavy mobility vehicles and two launcher vehicles based on 10×10 heavy mobility vehicles must be included in each set of the modular bridge.
    ● They must be able to launch a single-span, fully decked, 46-meter assault bridge mechanically.
    ● The bridge’s fast launching and recovery characteristics allow it to be used over a variety of obstacles, including canals and ditches.

12. ISRO-NASA ‘NISAR’ satellite to be launched from India in September

  • National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), jointly developed an Earth-observation satellite, called NISAR (NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar), got a send-off ceremony at the American space agency’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Southern California.
  • ISRO will use NISAR for a variety of purposes including agricultural mapping, and monitoring of glaciers in the Himalayas, landslide-prone areas and changes in the coastline.
  • The SUV-size satellite will be shipped to India in a special cargo container flight later this month for a possible launch  from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh. NISAR is expected to be launched in January 2024 from Satish Dhawan Space Centre into a near-polar orbit.

13. Elon Musk’s SpaceX Preppi pivotal engine test for Starship

  • SpaceX intends to fire up all 33 of its engines before launching its massive Starship launch system into orbit for the first time. This is an important step in the company’s mission to the moon and Mars.
  • Gwynne Shotwell, president and chief operating officer, announced Wednesday at an industry conference that the so-called static fire is slated.
  • The business, formerly known as Space Exploration Technologies Corp., fueled the rocket and booster with propellant in a “wet dress rehearsal” roughly two weeks before the announcement.”
  • The Starship is SpaceX’s next-generation launch vehicle that can carry both people and cargo into deep space.

14. Skye Air Launched India’s First Traffic Management System for Drones

He hit four Test hundreds for Australia and two for South Africa.

20. UNESCO To Declare the World’s First Living Heritage University
