RBI Survey: India’s Merchandise Imports to Grow Twice as Fast as Exports in FY26
- The recent RBI Survey of Professional Forecasters projects that India’s merchandise imports will grow by 2.5% in 2025-26, more than twice the 1.2% growth expected in exports, leading to a widening trade imbalance and a current account deficit of 0.8% of GDP, rising slightly to 0.9% in 2026-27. Despite this, India’s economy is forecast to grow steadily, with GDP expanding by 6.4% in 2025-26 and 6.7% the following year.
