APEDA Facilitates First Export of Fresh Mangoes from Jharkhand to the United Kingdom
- Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority facilitated the export of Jharkhand’s first commercial consignment of fresh mangoes to the United Kingdom on June 4, 2026.
- The shipment comprised 1.5 metric tonnes of Amrapali mangoes grown in Simdega district and was supplied by Beura Farmer Producer Company Ltd., an all-women FPC.
- The export followed APEDA’s capacity-building programme and a business linkage with JGB Agrofresh Pvt. Ltd..
- The initiative provides farmers better prices, promotes export-quality production, enhances the global recognition of Jharkhand’s horticulture sector, and opens new opportunities for agricultural exports.

Lucknow Gets New Regional Meteorological Centre, Boosting Weather Forecasting in Uttar Pradesh
- A new Regional Meteorological Centre was inaugurated in Lucknow on June 8, 2026, by Yogi Adityanath and Jitendra Singh.

- Singappen Special Task Force has been launched by the Government of Tamil Nadu on June 9, 2026 at Rajarathinam Stadium to strengthen the safety of women and children.

Fitch Lowers India’s FY27 GDP Growth Forecast to 6.4% Amid Middle East Crisis
- Fitch Ratings has revised India’s GDP growth forecast for FY27 to 6.4%, down from its earlier estimate of 6.7%, citing rising energy prices and inflationary pressures linked to tensions in the Middle East.
- According to Fitch’s Global Economic Outlook, the revised forecast also marks a slowdown from the 7.4% growth recorded in FY26.
- Higher oil prices are expected to erode household purchasing power, weaken consumer demand, and increase transportation and production costs, particularly during the second and third quarters of FY27.
- Despite the downgrade, India is projected to remain one of the world’s fastest-growing major economies.
- Fitch also expects inflation to rise from current levels and reach around 5.3% by year-end, driven by energy costs, weather-related risks, and base effects.
India Records Surprise Current Account Surplus of $7.1 Billion in Q4 FY26
- India recorded a current account surplus of $7.1 billion (0.7% of GDP) in Q4 FY26 (January–March 2026), according to the Reserve Bank of India. This marked a sharp improvement from the $13.2 billion deficit (1.3% of GDP) in the previous quarter.
- The surplus was driven by strong services exports, with net services receipts rising to $60.4 billion, and record remittances of $43.5 billion from overseas Indians.
- Despite a high merchandise trade deficit of $83.4 billion, the overall Balance of Payments (BoP) returned to a $7.2 billion surplus, reflecting India’s resilient external sector performance.
