Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 28th February 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. ABLUTION : स्नान
Meaning:a cleansing with water or other liquid, especially as a religious ritual.
Synonyms:purification, cleansing
Antonyms: impure
Example:While the bandaging no longer takes place, the ritual ablutions are still performed.


2. PRAGMATIC : व्यावहारिक
Meaning: solving problems in a sensible way that suits the conditions that really exist now, rather than obeying fixed theories, ideas, or rules
Synonyms:efficient, logical
Antonyms:irrational, inefficient
Example:In business, the pragmatic approach to problems is often more successful than an idealistic one.


3. WHINE : कराहना
Meaning:to make a long, high, sad sound
Synonyms:gripe, moan
Antonyms:happiness, pleasure
Example:Leon’s dog was sitting by the door whining, so I thought I’d better take it for a walk.


4. REDUNDANT : निरर्थक
Meaning:(especially of a word, phrase, etc.) unnecessary because it is more than is needed
Synonyms:superfluous, diffuse
Antonyms:needed, concise
Example:My English teacher was strict with us if what we wrote was abstract, sentimental, or redundant.


5. LOATHE : घृणा करना
Meaning:to hate someone or something
Synonyms:despise, detest
Antonyms:admire, adore
Example:From an early age the brothers have loathed each other.


6. DAWDLE : सुस्ती में वक़्त गंवाना
Meaning:to do something or go somewhere very slowly, taking more time than is necessary
Synonyms:loiter, laze
Antonyms:hurry, hasten
Example:She told her daughter to quit dawdling and get dressed or she’d be late for school.


7. IMPRACTICAL : अव्यवहारिक
Meaning:not effective or reasonable, or (of people) not able to provide effective or simple solutions
Synonyms:absurd, illogical
Antonyms:logical, reasonable
Example:It’s impractical to buy things just because they’re on sale.


8. UNWARY : असावधान
Meaning:not conscious of or careful about possible risks and dangers
Synonyms:careless, credulous
Antonyms:cautious, mindful
Example:Even today, the understanding of intellectual property protection in different countries, or groups of countries, is a minefield for the unwary or uninformed.


9. ASTUTE : चतुर
Meaning:able to understand a situation quickly and see how to take advantage of it
Synonyms:canny, crafty
Antonyms:foolish, inept
Example:He was politically astute, and was soon appointed to a number of powerful committees in Congress.


10. SHREWD : चालाक
Meaning:having or based on a clear understanding and good judgment of a situation, resulting in an advantage
Synonyms:artful, prudent
Antonyms:idiotic, stupid
Example:He was shrewd enough not to take the job when there was the possibility of getting a better one a few months later.
