Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 2nd April 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. FUNDAMENTAL : मौलिक
Meaning:serving as a basis supporting existence or determining essential structure or function
Synonyms: basic, elemental
Antonyms: advanced, final
Example:The large tumor and the damage from its treatment prevented him from being able to do one of the most fundamental things humans do.


2. SOPHISTRY : कुतर्क 

Meaning:subtly deceptive reasoning or argumentation
Synonyms: casuistry, fallacy
Antonyms: honesty, truth
Example:Some complain soccer is a chintzy distraction from the sophistry of our ruling classes.


3. OBFUSCATE : अस्पष्ट करना 
Meaning:to confuse
Synonyms: befog, confuse
Antonyms: clarify, befog
Example:She was criticized for using arguments that obfuscated the main issue.


4. OBDURATE : हठी  
Meaning:stubbornly persistent in wrongdoing
Synonyms:callous, stubborn
Antonyms: humane, sensitive
Example:Union leaders remain obdurate that working conditions and pay improve.


5. INTENT : इरादा 
Meaning:the fact that you want and plan to do something
Synonyms:aim, intention
Antonyms:irresolute, hesitant
Example:She was charged with possessing weapons with intent to endanger life.


6. LANGUISH : दुर्बल 
Meaning:to exist in an unpleasant or unwanted situation, often for a long time
Synonyms:decay, weaken
Antonyms: fortify, strengthen
Example:After languishing in obscurity for many years, her early novels have recently been rediscovered.


7. DEBASEMENT : नीचा दिखाना  
Meaning:the action of reducing the quality or value of something
Synonyms: abase, corrupt
Antonyms: uplift, ennoble
Example:Currency debasement means that the more dollars there are in circulation, the less each dollar is worth.


8. DEFIANCE : अवज्ञा 
Meaning: behaviour in which you refuse to obey someone or something
Synonyms: balkiness, forwardness
Antonyms: compliance, submission
Example:In defiance of the ceasefire, rebel troops are again firing on the capital.


9. ABRIDGE : संक्षेप करना 
Meaning:to reduce someone’s freedom, rights, etc.
Synonyms: curtail, truncate
Antonyms: extend, prolong
Example:He said that Congress would make no law abridging the freedom of speech.


10. FORAY : धावा 
Meaning:a short visit, especially with a known purpose
Synonyms: descent, invasion
Antonyms: leave, abstention
Example:I made a quick foray into town before lunch to get my sister a present.
