A recent notification brings positive news for all IBPS Clerk (CRP CSA XV) aspirants with benchmark disabilities. The corrigendum issued on 26 August 2025 regarding ‘Guidelines for Persons with Disabilities’ has been officially withdrawn, following new Office Memoranda from the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India. Now, the provision of using a scribe and availing compensatory time has reverted to the earlier restoring full support to PwD and PwSD (Persons with Benchmark or Specified Disabilities) candidates.
IBPS Clerk, Scribe & Compensatory Time
The latest circular states that eligible PwBD candidates can use the scribe facility in the exam scheduled for 04 & 05 October 2025, and will receive compensatory time, as per the IBPS Clerk Notification dated 01 August 2025 and in line with Government Office Memoranda. Candidates using scribes, or those who don’t but need extra time, will be given 20 minutes of additional time for every hour of the exam, as registered during the application process.

Key Rules and Guidelines for IBPS Clerk Scribe
Scribe Facility: Candidates with limitations in writing (as verified by a competent medical authority) may appoint a scribe whose educational qualification is below that of the candidate. The scribe may belong to any academic stream, but cannot appear in the same exam cycle.
Self-Arranged Scribe: Candidates must arrange their own scribes and provide proper certification and a letter of undertaking to the exam authorities.
Compensatory Time: Eligible candidates availing a scribe or not, will be granted compensatory time of 20 extra minutes per hour of the exam. For a one-hour test, this means an extra 20 minutes, system-generated and allowed only if pre-selected during online registration.
Important Cautions: The scribe is strictly prohibited from assisting more than one candidate and cannot appear as a candidate themselves in the same recruitment cycle. Any violation, misinformation, or malpractice will result in disqualification and debarment for both the candidate and the scribe from future exams.
Declaration and Aadhaar: Both candidate and scribe must provide undertakings and Aadhaar details, and are subject to document and Aadhaar verification anytime during the selection process.
Medical Certification: Only those with certified limitations to write, as detailed in official proformas, can use the facility. The need for a scribe must be confirmed by a recognised government medical authority.
Why is the IBPS Clerk Scribe rule Important?
Restoring the pre-existing policy ensures a level playing field for all PwD candidates. By granting the right to a scribe and extra time, the IBPS reaffirms its commitment to accessible examinations and inclusive opportunities. Such measures help candidates fully demonstrate their knowledge and skills despite physical challenges, making competitive banking exams truly fair and barrier-free for all.
