International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste 2022: The third International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste (IDAFLW) will be observed on September 29, 2022. In order to reduce food loss and waste (FLW), which will help to mitigate climate change and enhance food security and nutrition, public and commercial institutions from across the food system, as well as consumers, will be called upon to collaborate.

On December 19, 2019, the UN General Assembly declared September 29 to be the International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste. The UNGA acknowledged in the resolution that observing the International Day will considerably help boost global efforts and collective action towards achieving SDG 12 and raise awareness of the problem’s relevance and potential solutions at all levels (responsible consumption and production). The UN Environment Program (UNEP) and the Food and Nutrition Organization of the UN (FAO) will work together to support the Day’s observance.

The objective is to promote global efforts and collective action towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal Target. It also aims to increase awareness of the importance of the issue and potential solutions at all levels.
