The government has given permission for trials of 5G Technology

The government gives permission to telecom companies to conduct trials for the use and applications of 5G technology.

The applications have received from Bharti Airtel Limited, Reliance JioInfocomm Limited, Vodafone Idea Limited, and MTNL. These Telecom service providers had tied up with original equipment manufacturers and technology providers which are Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, and C-DOT.

In addition, Reliance JioInfocomm Limited is going to conduct trials by using its own indigenously developed technology. Ministry of Communication said that the time is given for the trials is for a period of six months which includes a time period of 2 months for procurement and setting up of the equipment also.

The permission letters specified that each Telecom service provider will have to conduct trials in rural and semi-urban settings so the benefit of 5G technology spread across the country. The objectives behind conducting 5G trials are testing 5G spectrum propagation quality especially in the Indian context, testing of indigenous technology, and testing of 5G phones and devices.

The Ministry said that 5G technology is aimed to deliver improved user experience in terms of data download rates, expected to be 10 times that of 4G and up to three times greater spectrum efficiency. The Department of Telecommunications has described that the trials will be isolated and not connected with the existing networks of Telecom Service Providers.
