The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) has officially updated the designation for the Clerical cadre in public sector banks. Effective from April 1, 2024, the position previously known as “IBPS Clerk” has been renamed to “IBPS Customer Service Associate (CSA).” This role serves as a key frontline and administrative position, playing a vital part in ensuring smooth day-to-day banking operations and delivering quality customer service.
What is the role of an IBPS Customer Service Assistant?
A IBPS Customer Service Associate in a bank handles many important tasks. Besides basic accounting, they help customers, manage cash, and guide people with banking services. They are usually the first person customers talk to when they visit the bank. Because they manage front desk duties and customer support, this role is also known as a Single Window Operator.
Key Role of a Customer Service Associate:-
Customer Service
- Handle customer inquiries related to accounts, services, and banking procedures
- Provide information on banking products, digital services, and government schemes
- Resolve common banking issues and complaints
- Manage the inquiry counter and assist walk-in customers
Account Management
- Assist in opening new bank accounts
- Update passbooks and issue bank statements
- Verify and process account-related documents
Cash Handling & Transactions
- Process cash deposits and withdrawals
- Handle cheques, demand drafts, and other instruments
- Maintain daily cash balance and reconcile cash registers
Administrative & Support Tasks
- Maintain bank records, ledgers, and balance sheets
- Issue instruments like Demand Drafts (DDs)
- Attend to treasury-related duties
- Assist senior bank officials in routine operations
- Perform data entry and document verification
