About Epilepsy

Disturbances in the nerve cell activities trigger epilepsy causing ‘fits’ or temporary loss of consciousness in the host body. These sensations can also lead to abnormal behavior which can often branch to a seizure. Causes often being unknown, they may be the seed from a brain injury or a family tendency.

Any person that has experienced at least two seizures that did not occur under the influence of alcohol or due to change of any medication can be diagnosed with epilepsy. This disorder is severe but non-communicable. Symptoms might occur in any part of the body but the events in electrical impulses often originate from the brain.

History of Epilepsy Foundation in India

This day is observed to break the barriers around the issue and make the general public aware of it as epilepsy accounts for almost 0.5% of the global burden of disease and is one of the most common conditions affecting the brain.
