Government To Launch JEEVAN App for Senior Citizens and SHATAYU Dashboard for Care Ecosystem
- Virendra Kumar will launch the JEEVAN Mobile App for Senior Citizens and the SHATAYU Dashboard for Geriatric Caregivers on 22 May 2026 under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
- The JEEVAN App aims to improve eldercare access, digital support services, and connectivity for elderly citizens, while the SHATAYU Dashboard will support caregiver coordination, resource sharing, and elderly care information management.
- The initiative focuses on strengthening India’s Care Economy, covering areas like Eldercare, Healthcare Support, Disability Care, and community-based caregiving through technology-driven solutions and policy support.
- The programme will also feature Karnataka and Kerala presenting best practices in social welfare and healthcare, with participation from policymakers, experts, academia, and government stakeholders.
India Fast-Tracks ₹2,600 Crore Chenab Projects After Indus Waters Treaty Freeze
- India has approved Chenab River infrastructure projects worth nearly ₹2,600 crore, including the ₹2,352 crore Chenab-Beas Link Tunnel in Himachal Pradesh and the Dulhasti Stage-II hydropower project in Jammu and Kashmir.
- Executed by NHPC, the projects aim to improve water utilization and expand hydropower generation.
- The move comes after India paused engagement under the Indus Waters Treaty following the Pahalgam terror attack, drawing geopolitical attention.

- India is developing its first underwater museum near Sindhudurg, centered around the decommissioned naval warship INS Guldar.

- World Health Organization had flagged the severity of the outbreak. India reaffirmed support for African nations through possible health assistance, coordination with Africa CDC, and capacity-building efforts.

- According to Reserve Bank of India, credit card transactions in India surged from 216 crore in 2021 to 570 crore in 2025, while transaction value rose from ₹8.9 lakh crore to ₹23.2 lakh crore, reflecting rapid growth in digital consumer spending.
- The rise is driven by e-commerce expansion, cashback offers, reward programs, EMI options, travel benefits, and deeper integration of credit cards with UPI, mobile wallets, and recurring digital payments.
- Meanwhile, debit card usage sharply declined, with transaction volume falling from 408.7 crore to 133.6 crore and value dropping from ₹7.4 lakh crore to ₹4.5 lakh crore as consumers increasingly shifted toward UPI and QR-code payments.
- The report also highlights growing dominance of private banks in the credit card market, while UPI merchant QR infrastructure expanded rapidly, showing India’s accelerating transition toward a cashless and smartphone-driven digital payment ecosystem.
