Will IBPS PO be conducted on 17 August or Not?

The IBPS PO exam is approaching, and many aspirants are eagerly for the exam. According to the IBPS Calendar 2025, the preliminary exam was initially expected to be held on 17 August. However, the schedule has been revised, and the exam will now be conducted on 23 and 24 August 2025. In this article, we clarify the updated dates and confirm that the exam will not take place on 17 August.

Will IBPS PO be Conducted on 17 August or Not?

The IBPS PO Admit Card has been released, confirming the IBPS PO Exam will be conducted on 23 and 24 August 2025. This clarifies that the exam will not take place on the earlier date of 17 August, giving candidates enough time to download their admit cards and prepare accordingly.

Why the 17 August Exam Is Not Happening

The primary reason for the change in schedule is the admit card release. IBPS has a consistent practice of issuing IBPS PO Preliminary admit cards at least 7–10 days before the exam. Since no admit card was released for the 17 August slot, it was clear that the exam could not be conducted on that date. Following this pattern, and with the admit cards now officially released for 23 and 24 August, it is confirmed that the first phase of the IBPS PO 2025 exam will begin on 23 August 2025.

What are the IBPS PO Exam Dates?

Although 17 August was initially mentioned as a tentative date, the IBPS PO Preliminary exam will now be conducted on 23 and 24 August 2025, as per the official calendar. Candidates are advised to continue their preparation and regularly check the official IBPS website to download their admit cards, which will provide the exact date, shift, and exam center for each candidate.

Things to Remember while Applying for SBI Clerk 2025

The online application process for SBI Clerk 2025 began on 6th August 2025 and will continue until 26th August 2025. Many candidates, especially first-time applicants, may find it confusing to navigate the official website and complete the form correctly.

Things to Remember While Applying for SBI Clerk 2025

To make the process easier, we have outlined simple methods and important points that every candidate should keep in mind while applying. This guide highlights the key things to remember to ensure a smooth and error-free application for SBI Clerk 2025.

Dates of Submission

It is important to take note of the important dates before starting for SBI Clerk Apply Online 2025. The online registration will begin on 6th August 2025 and end on 26th August 2025. Complete your application and payment early to ensure smooth and hassle-free submission.

Verify Eligibility Criteria

Before starting the application, ensure you meet all eligibility requirements. Checking these details early prevents disqualification. Important points include:

  • Educational Qualification: Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university.
  • Age Limit: Generally 20–28 years, with age relaxation for reserved categories.
  • Nationality: Must be an Indian citizen, or meet criteria for Nepal, Bhutan, or Tibetan refugees.

Required Documents

Having all necessary documents ready before starting the application saves time and prevents errors. Those applying under reserved categories should also prepare caste or disability certificates. Make sure all files meet the prescribed format and size requirements.

  • Graduation certificates and mark sheets
  • Valid ID proof (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, etc.)
  • Recent scanned passport-size photograph and signature
  • Caste or disability certificates, if applicable

Select Exam Center

Choosing the right test center is an important step in the application process. Consider locations that are close to your home and easily accessible by public transport. Also, consider alternative options in case your preferred center is full. A well-thought-out choice can make test day less stressful and more convenient.

Keep a Copy of the Application Form

After completing the application, it is important to download and print a copy of it. This copy will serve as a reference for future correspondence, admit card verification, and test day requirements. Keeping a record ensures that you have proof of application submission in case there are any discrepancies.

Avoid Last Minute Application Submission

It is always advisable to submit the application before the last date. Last-minute submission of the application may cause the website to crash, payment failure, or errors in personal information. Double-check all entries, including name, date of birth, qualifications, and test center preference, to ensure accuracy.

Follow Instructions for Photograph and Signature

Many applications get rejected due to incorrect photograph or signature uploads. Ensure the photograph is recent, with a clear background, and that the signature is done on white paper with black ink. Following the exact size and format guidelines helps avoid unnecessary rejection.

Bank Nationalization to Mega Mergers: The 1969–2025 Journey

India’s banking sector has been a key part of the country’s economic growth and development since 1969. This Independence Day, it is important to remember the journey of India’s banks from the major Bank Nationalization under Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to the modern-era mergers that made public sector banks stronger and more efficient.

Bank Nationalization Day

Over the years, banks have made financial services accessible to both rural and urban areas, helping millions of people, small businesses, and the economy grow. The 1969 nationalization brought banking to many who had no access before, turning it into a tool for social and economic progress. Here are the major banks that were nationalized.

Phase Year No. of Banks Nationalized Name of Major Banks Nationalized
1st Phase 1969 14 Banks Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Canara Bank, Indian Bank, Union Bank of India, and others
2nd Phase 1980 6 Banks Andhra Bank, Corporation Bank, New Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce, Punjab & Sind Bank, Vijaya Bank

Nationalization of Banks

1969 Nationalization (14 Banks)

Prior to 1969, India’s banking network was concentrated mainly in cities, catering predominantly to large corporations and affluent sections of society. Rural communities and small borrowers had little to no access to organized banking. To address this imbalance and extend financial services to all, the government undertook the bold step of nationalizing 14 prominent private banks, each holding deposits of over ₹50 crores.

Institutions such as Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, and Canara Bank were brought under state control, marking a turning point toward a more inclusive and development-focused banking system.

Impact of the 1969 Nationalization

The results of the 1969 nationalization were transformational:

Branch Expansion: Bank branches increased significantly in rural and semi-urban areas. Between 1969 and 1990, rural branches grew from around 1,800 to over 35,000.

Increased Financial Inclusion: Millions of people gained access to banking facilities, including savings accounts, loans, and financial services.

Directed Lending: Banks were mandated to lend to priority sectors like agriculture, MSMEs, and weaker sections, ensuring credit was no longer monopolized by large industries.

Economic Empowerment: Nationalization empowered low-income households and small entrepreneurs by enabling access to formal credit systems.

The Second Phase of Nationalization, 1980 (6 Banks)

Following the success of the 1969 move, a second wave of nationalization occurred in 1980, when 6 more private sector banks were brought under government control. With this, the number of public sector banks increased to 20, further deepening financial penetration in underserved regions. These were:

  • Andhra Bank
  • Corporation Bank
  • New Bank of India
  • Oriental Bank of Commerce
  • Punjab & Sind Bank
  • Vijaya Bank

Consolidation and Mergers: The Modern-Day Normalization

After decades of expanding public sector banks (PSBs), the Indian government initiated a new strategy post-2010, consolidation and normalization, to strengthen and streamline the banking system. Key Developments in the Bank Consolidation Era:

2017-2018: The government began efforts to merge smaller PSBs with stronger ones. In 2017, State Bank of India (SBI) merged with its five associate banks and Bharatiya Mahila Bank, making it one of the top 50 global banks.

2019 Announcements (Effective 2020): The government merged 10 public sector banks into 4, reducing the number of PSBs from 27 (in 2017) to 12 (by 2020).

  • Punjab National Bank absorbed Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India.
  • Canara Bank merged with Syndicate Bank.
  • Union Bank of India took over Andhra Bank and Corporation Bank.
  • Indian Bank merged with Allahabad Bank.

Rationale Behind Mergers: The normalization through mergers aimed to create larger, stronger, and more competitive banks with improved efficiency, capital adequacy, and lending capacity.
