Sanchar Mobile App Launched: Know How Many Language Does It Supports?

• Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia launched the Sanchar Saathi mobile app in Hindi and 21 regional languages to extend its reach across India.
• With over 46 lakh downloads, the app allows users to report suspicious communications, block or trace lost/stolen phones, and check unauthorized mobile connections.
• The launch, held during a stakeholders’ meeting in New Delhi, involved representatives from law enforcement, telecom providers, financial institutions, C-DOT, RPF, and DoT, marking a major step in combating telecom-related cyber frauds and ensuring inclusive digital safety.

Private Sector to Invest ₹77,000 Crore in Thermal Power by FY28: Crisil

• According to Crisil Ratings, India’s private sector will invest ₹77,000 crore in thermal power projects between FY26 and FY28, boosting its share to nearly one-third of total investments.
• Overall, thermal power investments will double to ₹2.3 lakh crore in the next three years.
• With Adani, Tata, JSW, and Vedanta leading mostly brownfield expansions, and long-term 25-year PPAs signed by state discoms, projects are expected to be financially viable.
• Vedanta Power, post-demerger, plans a 15 GW expansion, including revival of a 2,200 MW portfolio, backed by a tariff ensuring 15% IRR.

How Much 11 PSBs Collected as Penalty for Low Bank Balances In FY21-FY25?

• Between FY21 and FY25, 11 public sector banks collected around ₹9,000 crore in penalties for failure to maintain minimum balance in savings accounts, according to Finance Ministry data presented in the Rajya Sabha.
• While SBI discontinued such charges in March 2020, and seven PSBs followed suit from FY26, private sector banks continue to levy them.
• The DFS has advised rationalisation, particularly to support semi-urban and rural customers, with RBI guidelines ensuring fairness and transparency in imposing such charges.
