The IBPS PO Interview is an important stage in the selection process for appearing candidates. Every candidate’s experience is unique, and the panel of interviewers plays an important role in assessing not only the technical knowledge but also the interpersonal skills of the applicants. Below we have shared experiences from candidates who appeared for the IBPS PO Interview till today.
IBPS PO Interview Experience 1
My interview was in Guwahati in the 1 PM slot. I reached the venue by 12 PM, but my interview happened only around 5 PM. By then, I was very hungry and my stomach was literally grumbling. My interview was very short, hardly 3 minutes. Most of the questions were personal, based on my experiences. They also asked one question about digital arrest.
- In my introduction, I mentioned that I was elected as a student union leader three times in my college, where there were around 4000–5000 students. I also shared that I was a leader in NSS and the Red Ribbon Club. Because of my involvement in these organisations, I am an active blood donor and have donated blood 22 times so far.
- They asked me what leadership means to me. I said that leadership is the ability to inspire and convince people whom I lead.
- Then they asked why leadership is important in banking. I answered that leadership is very important for a Probationary Officer because it helps in maintaining good relationships with colleagues and creating a healthy work environment. Since POs manage and lead teams, leadership is also important while dealing with customers.
- When they asked why I chose banking, I said that before graduating, I researched different career options. I shortlisted SSC and banking, and after further online research and discussions with people, I felt banking suited me better.
- One of the female panel members asked me to rate my confidence. I said 7 out of 10. When she asked why, I honestly explained that I am usually a little nervous at the beginning, but once I start interacting, my confidence increases to 9 out of 10.
- Finally, they asked me about digital arrest, which I answered confidently.
That was the end of my interview. Some other candidates were interviewed for around 10 minutes and were asked many banking, scheme, and finance-related questions. Because my interview was so short, I am not sure whether it was good or if I was rejected early.

I explained that while more deposits generally provide banks with more liquidity and a larger lending capacity, there are limitations in terms of managing large amounts of deposits.
The discussion then moved to balance sheets, where I was asked what they are, and how goodwill is classified in financial statements, whether it is an asset or liability. Overall the interview was engaging, and I felt it was an opportunity to showcase my knowledge of the banking sector.

Next, they asked me a question related to computer science, which I was unable to answer. I politely said that I did not know the answer, and the panel seemed understanding. They then inquired about which bank I held an account with, and I mentioned my bank.
The panel also asked about faceless banking, a modern approach that eliminates the need for physical presence in branches for most transactions. I explained how digital banking has made banking more convenient and efficient. They asked me about the problems I thought were present in a bank branch setting, and I shared that long waiting times and lack of accessibility for the elderly could be an issue.
The next question was about KYC (Know Your Customer) and CIBIL (Credit Information Bureau), where I briefly discussed the importance of these processes in ensuring secure financial transactions.
