Comparing with 2007-14 in the last seven years Indian Railway has achieved more than 5 times electrification. It commissioned a record 56 Traction Sub Station during 2020-21 which was best of 42 in previous year, which shows an improvement of 33 percent. Some of the major sections were electrified by the Indian Railways over the time of period include Mumbai-Howrah via Jabalpur, Delhi-Darbhanga-Jaynagar and Chennai-Trichy.

Ministry of Railways said that Railway is planning to fully electrify its tracks by December 2023. Rail electrification would be helpful in achieving the goal of ‘Zero Net’ emissions by 2030 withdrawing its entire electrical load from renewable energy sources.
