National Education Day

11th November is celebrated as National Education Day across the country to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad who was the first education minister of India. We are celebrating this day from 11th November, 2008 when Ministry of Human Resource Development announced to celebrate the birth anniversary of the great son of India. Seminars, Essay-writing competition, Railies, workshops and other events are organized in the educational institutions to spread awareness about the education or the importance of literacy.

Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad: The First Education Minister of India

After becoming the first education minister of India, he established the university grant commission (UGC), after India got independence. He at the age of 35 was the youngest president of Indian National Congress. He was also known as the warrior with the pen as he used to write several poems. He worked for free education in the country and established higher educational institutions.

Things you should know about Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad

#His complete name was Maulana Sayyid Abul Kalam Ghulam Muhiyuddin Ahmed bin Khairuddin Al-Hussaini Azad.

#In the initial stages of education, his father teaches him, after that the famous teacher in his area took the charge or the same.

#He learned Arabic and Persian and then studied philosophy, geometry, mathematics and algebra. He also learned the English language, history of the world and politics by  himself.

#He successfully set up secret revolutionary Centre throughout North India and Bombay within the span of two years.

#He also started a newspaper in 1912 named ‘Al-Hilal’ to spread the feeling of patriotism among Muslims.

#As the first Education Minister Of India, he served the country from 1947 to 158 in Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru’s Cabinet. He died of heart attack on 22nd February 1958.
