Q1. Ajay and Vijay travel the same distance at the rate of 3.5 km per hour and 4 km per hour respectively. If Ajay takes 45 minute longer than Vijay, find the total distance travelled by Ajay and Vijay together ?

Q2. The distance between two bus stand A and B is 300 km. A bus starts from bus stand A and moves towards bas stand B at the rate of 15 km/hr. After 2 hours, another bus starts from bus stand B and moves towards bus stand A at the rate of 30 km/hr. How far from bus stand A will they cross each other ?

Solution:

When bus starts from B, the bus from A will already covered = 30 km
The remaining distance = 300 – 30 = 270 km
Relative speed = 15 + 30 = 45 km/hr
Required time to cross each other = 270/45 = 6 hr
Distance covered by bus started from bus station A till it crosses another bus
= 30 + 15 × 6
= 120 km

Q3. Abhay is twice as good as Vijay and is therefore able to finish a piece of work in 36 days less than Vijay. In how many days they can complete the whole work if they are working together ?

Solution:

Ratio of efficiency of Abhay to Vijay 2 : 1
Ration of time → 1 : 2
Let time taken by Abhay and Vijay is 2x and x days respectively
ATQ—
2x – x = 36
x = 36
Required days = 72/3
⇒ 24 days

Q4. A and B can do a piece of work in 12 days and 36 days respectively. If A decrease his efficiency by 33 ⅓% and B increase his efficiency by 100%, then how many days they will complete the remaining work together if half of the work completed before changing in their efficiencies?

Solution:

Efficiency of A = 3
After decrement his efficiency = 2
Efficiency of B = 1
After increment his efficiency = 2
Total work = 36
Half work completed ⇒ 18
