India’s Fish Production Doubles in a Decade, Employment Sees Massive Boost

India’s fisheries and aquaculture sector has seen rapid growth over the past decade, with fish production rising to 197.75 lakh tonnes in FY 2024–25, a 106% increase since 2013–14, making India the world’s second-largest fish producer.
Supported by major government schemes like PMMSY and FIDF, the sector has attracted large investments, generated 74.66 lakh jobs, strengthened livelihoods of nearly 3 crore fishers, and boosted seafood exports to ₹62,408 crore, emerging as a key driver of rural growth, nutrition, and economic development.

Meghalaya Gets Its First Woman Chief Justice

Justice Revati Mohite Dere was sworn in as the first woman Chief Justice of the Meghalaya High Court.
The oath was administered at Lok Bhavan in Shillong. She succeeded Justice Soumen Sen, who was transferred to the Kerala High Court.
Earlier, she served as a judge of the Bombay High Court. Her appointment was recommended by the Supreme Court collegium.
The event marks a milestone for gender representation in the judiciary. It strengthens judicial leadership in Meghalaya.

Aralam Declared Kerala’s First Butterfly Sanctuary

Kerala has renamed Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary as Aralam Butterfly Sanctuary. It has become the state’s first butterfly sanctuary. The move recognises the region’s rich butterfly diversity.
The decision was approved by the State Board for Wildlife. A butterfly village linking four panchayats is planned. Awareness and conservation programmes will be conducted.
Aralam was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1984. It lies within the Western Ghats. The step strengthens insect conservation. It also promotes community participation and sustainable eco-tourism.

APEDA Opens Regional Office in Raipur to Boost Chhattisgarh’s Agri Exports

APEDA has inaugurated a Regional Office in Raipur to strengthen agri and processed food exports from Chhattisgarh. The office was opened during the 2nd India International Rice Summit.
It will support farmers, producer groups, and exporters. Chhattisgarh is known for non-basmati and GI-tagged rice like Jeeraphool and Nagri Dubraj.

Roll rate and flight path deviation were observed. ISRO confirmed the issue. Detailed analysis has begun.
