Canara Bank Promotion Exam 2025 Eligibility for Promotion
The Canara Bank Promotion Exam 2025 is conducted for the promotion of officers to MMG Scale-II, MMG Scale-III, and SMG Scale-IV. This process follows the Bank’s Long Term Promotion Policy and sets out eligibility criteria, willingness submission, and the online test schedule for officers seeking promotion.
MMG Scale-II (Merit Channel):
- Officers who joined or were promoted to the feeder cadre on or before April 1, 2023.
- Must have completed 3 years of qualifying service as of April 1, 2026.
MMG Scale-II (Normal Channel):
- Officers who joined or were promoted to JMG Scale-I on or before April 1, 2021.
- Must have completed 5 years of qualifying service as of April 1, 2026.
MMG Scale-III (Merit Channel):
- Officers who joined or were promoted to the feeder cadre on or before April 1, 2023.
- Must have completed 3 years of qualifying service as of April 1, 2026.
MMG Scale-III (Normal Channel):
- Officers who joined or were promoted to MMG Scale-II on or before April 1, 2021.
- Must have completed 5 years of qualifying service as of April 1, 2026.
SMG Scale-IV:
- Officers who joined or were promoted to MMG Scale-III on or before April 1, 2023.
- Must have completed 3 years of qualifying service as of April 1, 2026.
General Eligibility Rules
- Officers retiring on or before 31 March 2026 are not eligible.
- Qualifying service excludes periods of sabbatical leave, suspension (if not treated as duty), and AWL exceeding 90 days.
Rural / Semi-Urban Branch Service
- MMG Scale-II & MMG Scale-III: Mandatory 3 years of Rural/Semi-urban Branch Service for Generalist Officers. Officers who have not completed this can provisionally undergo promotion, but confirmation is subject to completing the service.
- SMG Scale-IV: Mandatory 3 years of Rural/Semi-urban Branch Service for Generalist Officers. Officers who have not completed this service cannot undergo the promotion process.
Relaxation
- Under the Normal Channel for MMG Scale-II and III, officers with more than 2 years of continuous rural branch service can get 6 months relaxation in qualifying service for each additional year, up to a maximum of 2 years.
- This relaxation is not applicable for subsequent promotions if already availed for MMG Scale-II.
