Children’s Day 2022: History

Initially, Children’s Day was observed in India on November 20, the day designated by the United Nations as World Children’s Day. However, following Jawaharlal Nehru’s death in 1964, the Indian Parliament passed a resolution designating his birthday as Children’s Day. So, Children’s Day has been observed since 1964 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. He was a strong supporter of children’s rights and an all-inclusive education system in which knowledge is available to all. Under Gandhi’s guidance, Nehru emerged as a leader in India’s struggle for independence in 1947. He established a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic in independent India. Nehru is known as the architect of modern India because of this.

Children’s Day 2022: Significance

Children require special care and consideration from elders because they are the most helpless and innocent members of the family. On National Children’s Day, the importance of improving children’s welfare and securing their future is emphasized. The day promotes children’s rights and raises awareness about the importance of educating them, as they are the country’s future. Because he was popular among children, Pt Nehru was called “Chacha Nehru.” He saw them as the country’s future assets for whom an all-rounded education would be of paramount importance. Because of this, he was instrumental in the establishment of pioneering institutions such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT), the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), and the National Institutes of Technology (NIT).
