IBPS PO Mains 2019: Important Takeaways

IBPS PO Mains exam is over now. The level of the exam was very difficult and lengthy. IBPS left the aspirants in the tight corner by raising the difficulty bar and twisting the questions with some variations in each section. Students have managed to attempt around 63-66 questions(overall) in the given time in IBPS PO Mains exam. Due to leangthy and complex questions, students was little confused on making choice of question to be attempted first. The order of the sections asked in the IBPS PO Mains exam was as follows:

Considering the level of the IBPS PO Mains exam this year, we can conjectured that students have to be extra smart to face and tackle the unexpected changes. IBPS is one of the most prestigious exam. Those who will qualify in the IBPS PO Mains will be called for the interview round. From today’s IBPS PO Mains exam, it can be concluded that the cut off for the exam may remain low as compared to previous year (Expected) due to high level of difficulty and lengthy exam.

IBPS PO Mains, English Language: Important Takeaways

English section->Difficult

Number of Doable/Good Attempts->19-23

English section beared the major changes among all. Although the questions asked were based on the familiar topics but with some twist and turn. This section was difficult. There were three sets of Reading comprehension and each include 3-4 questions but the questions based on RC was not in the series. They were randomly asked.

For Example: After a questions of RC-1, suddenly question based on RC-2 was there.

Sentence Rearrangement questions were not from the conventional pattern. Here 4 sentences were given in jumbled form where student’s had to arrange each of the sentence first to form a meaningful sentence. New pattern based questions on Cloze test were asked. There were also questions on inference based testing comprehension skill. Error detection carries the weightage of 5 marks in the exam.

IBPS PO Mains, Quantitative Aptitude: Important Takeaways

Quantitative Aptitude section->Difficult

Number of Doable/Good Attempts->6-8

This section was difficult and lengthy.The whole section was equipped with the questions based Data Interpretation and analysis. There were approx 25 questions based on it and each question carried 2 marks each. Although there were few more questions on DI which were doable but they were given at the last of the section. No questions from Arithmetic was observed in the exam. Only one question was asked from Wrong number series.

Students who managed to visit all the questions, might have solved the doable questions given in the last  but those who got stucked with the questions given in the begining might have missed attempting the rest.

Reasoning and Computer Aptitude->Difficult

Number of Doable/Good Attempts->9-13

This section was very difficult and lengthy. Students could not find time to pick out which questions they should attempt and which one to skip. This section gives the painstaking task to the aspirants. There were 5 sets of puzzles and seating arrangement which were hard to recognise and solve. No questions on the computer were asked. There were around 5 questions of logical reasoning which were based on Statement and Inference.

There were 2 sets of machine inpit and output which were based blood relation and direction sense and on the coding and decoding format. This was the major change that were introduced by the IBPS in today’s exam.

General Awareness->Difficult

Number of Doable/Good Attempts->19-23

This section if compare with Reasoning and quantitative apitude was of moderate level. Students somehow manged to attempt approx 23 questions based on their knowledge. Current affairs of last three months were asked with major focus on the october and november month. IBPS PO Mains, Descriptive Writing: Important Takeaways

Descriptive Writing->Moderate

Number of questions to be attempted->2 (One letter, one essay)

The level of the descriptive part was moderate. Students had 30 minutes to complete the test. The topics asked in the descriptive writing was not so easy but doable if an aspirant have the knowledge on the topics asked. But the relaxing part of this section was that there were five questions given each for letter and essay writing out of which only one topic was to be picked by the students.

Essay Writing Topics ( Candidates had to choose any 1) – word limit 250 words

  • Ethical Banking
  • Social Media Influencer’s Impact on us
  • Contribution of Unorganised Sector in Indian Economy
  • Pros and Cons of 4 days working in a week
  • FDI in retail sector

Letter Writing Topics ( Candidates had to choose any 1) – word limit 150 words

  • Write a letter to your bank’s branch manager informing him that your EMI installment of Rs. 3000 has been deducted instead of Rs. 2000. Request him to take the necessary action to rollback the transaction or adjust the amount.
  • Write a letter to the Road Transport Authority expressing your concern over usage of high beam LED lights in bikes and cars
  • Write a letter to the editor of a newspaper expressing your concern on the state of elderly living alone by themselves. Request the government to take some initiatives to help the senior citizens living alone.
