International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development

International Volunteer Day for Economic and Social Development is celebrated every year internationally all around the Globe on December 5 2019. This event celebration provides a great chance to all the individual volunteers and organizations of volunteers to show their contributions at the international, national and local levels in order to get the Millennium Development Goals.

This day beside mobilizing thousands of volunteers every year, also promotes peace and development by supporting development programme.

Background

United Nation General Assembly give consent for celebrating the International Volunteer Day every year for the Economic and Social Development. On 17th December, 1985, United Nation General Assembly declared 5th December to be celebrated as the International Volunteer Day all around the world every year. Since then, the International Volunteer Day was started celebrating yearly by the UN system, the governments, civil society organizations and etc.

Theme: International Volunteer Day 2019

Theme 2019: “Volunteer for an inclusive future”.

The theme of 2019 International Volunteer Day focuses to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal 10 (SDG 10) which signifies reducing inequality including inclusion through volunteerism. This day is an opportunity to play a constructive role by volunteering their time and skills as communities in the whole world experience strengthened solidarity and inclusion through this.

International Volunteer Day Celebration

International Volunteer Day celebration focuses on increasing the awareness among people and government organizations for their voluntary contributions. Various activities are conducted on this day like:

• Parades, marches and rallies are organized for increasing the awareness among people worldwide.
• Award ceremony organized for winner volunteers for appreciating their significant involvement to their communities.
• Varieties of competitions and events are organized for the Volunteers.
• Time donation campaign involves people to pledge for the voluntary services to the precise projects.
• Voluntary programs launched by the Companies as part of their business responsibility.
