Mother’s Day was first celebrated in the US in 1908 when a woman named Anna Jarvis wished to celebrate mothers day as a recognized holiday to for her mother, Anna Reese Jarvis who was an activist and had passed away three years prior. Anna also built a memorial for her mother in St. Andrews methodist church in west virginia which is also now the International mothers day shirn. Anna Jarvis wanted to honour her mother as she believed that a mother is a person who has done more than anyone in the world. For mothers day modern holiday was first celebrated in 1907, when Anna Jarvis held the first mothers day service of worship at andrews Methodist episcopal church in grafton virginia. Andrew’s methodist church now holds the international mothers day shrine.
