What is Dry run of Covid-19 Vaccine: Know Everything About It

A dry run of the COVID-19 vaccination program has been initiated on  Saturday across all states and union territories. Earlier on 28th and 29 December 2020 Four states – Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, and Punjab conducted the first COVID-19 vaccine dry run. What is Covid-19 Dry run? What is its significance? What is Dry run of Covid-19 Vaccine?

The COVID-19 vaccine dry run is a practice session where a sample number of beneficiaries will go through a mock immunization process. The selected group of healthcare workers and staff members of vaccination centers will be taking part in this mock immunization drive. The objective of the COVID-19 vaccine dry run is to test linkages between planning and implementation and also to identify the challenges that can arise. The dry run is being conducted to assess operational feasibility in the use of Covid vaccine intelligence network (Co-Win) application in a field environment. This will also guide the way forward before actual implementation. The union health minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan also visited the GTB hospital to review the dry and drill for administering the COVID-19 vaccine. Who all will participate in the dry run of the Covid-19 vaccine?

The health ministry also announced that around 96,000 vaccinators are have been trained for this purpose. 57,000 participants have been trained in district level training in 719 districts and 2360 participants have been trained in the national training. Below are the major dry run centers announced by state and union territories:

Delhi

Venkateshwara Hospital in South West district; Daryaganj dispensary in Central district; and Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Shahdara

Jharkhand  

Ranchi, East Singhbhum, Chatra, Palamu, and Pakur

Uttar Pradesh

Sahara Hospital, RML Hospital, King George’s Medical University, and SGPGI as well one center each in Mall block and Malihabad block in Lucknow

Jammu and Kashmir

UT administration has identified 9 hospitals in 3 districts Jammu, Srinagar, and Kulgam

Gujarat

Dahod, Bhavnagar, Valsad, and Anand districts

Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Idukki, Wayanad and Palakkad districts 

Punjab

The state is conducting a dry run in Patiala. Three identified sites are Government Medical College; Sadhbhavna Hospital; and the Community Health Centre in Shatranj.

Karnataka

The dry run will be conducted at Kamakshipalya Urban PHC (West Zone), Vidyapeetha Urban Primary Health Centre (South Zone), and Hargade PHC in Anekal that comes under the Bangalore Urban district.
