World Sight Day 2022: Every year on the second Thursday of October, World Sight Day is celebrated. This year, it falls on the 13th of October. The Lions Clubs International Foundation launched it as part of their ‘SightFirstCampaign’ to raise awareness about preventable blindness and assist persons who are visually impaired. The event emphasises the significance of eye health and raises awareness of the critical need for improved eye health facilities. Melvin Jones founded the Lions Clubs International (L.C.I.) in 1917. The Lions Clubs International has coordinated a wide range of initiatives around the world. Among many initiatives of L.C.I., “SightFirst” campaign was one of the well-known one. This effort, which was started in 1990, sought to combat trachoma-related blindness as well as other causes of blindness. More than 488 million visually impaired persons benefited from these efforts. The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness (I.A.P.B.) and Lions Clubs International declared the second Thursday of October to be celebrated as World Sight Day during the “SightFirst” campaign in 2000.
