Daily Vocabulary for Bank Exams: 7th March 2019

Vocabulary is an important part of English that helps you deal with all kinds of questions in objective as well as descriptive papers of various exams. In the recently concluded Banking Exams, we witnessed that a major part of the exam was based on vocabulary. Many questions were vocab based and we can expect the same in the upcoming exams. 1. GOAD (verb) अंकुश लगाना
Meaning: provoke or annoy (someone) so as to stimulate some action or reaction.
Synonyms: spur, exhort, prompt, urge.
Antonyms: discourage, inhibit, deter, restrain.
Usage: A teacher always find new positive ways to goad his students into reading more.

2.  DOTARD (noun) बूढ़ा
Meaning: an old person, especially one who has become weak or senile.
Synonyms: oldster, graybeard, grandsire, elder.
Antonyms: juvenile, teen, minor, youth.
Usage: As the dotard slowly walked with a cane, he struggled with figuring out where the senior citizen center was located even though he had been there dozens of times.

3. HURL (verb) वेग से फेंकना
Meaning:  throw or impel (someone or something) with great force.
Synonyms: fling, cast, project, propel.
Antonyms: dawdle, dally, amble, plod.
Usage: Pitchers will hurl the baseball at the catchers in a baseball game which will usually get clocked at a 100 miles per hour.

4. REDACT (verb) संपादित करना
Meaning: edit (text) for publication.
Synonyms: correct, rectify, repair, fix.
Antonyms: befoul, deteriorate, diminish, hinder.
Usage: Some of the conclusions in the report have been redacted.

5. INCOHERENT (adjective) असंगत
Meaning: (of spoken or written language) expressed in an incomprehensible or confusing way; unclear.
Synonyms:  unclear, confused, muddled, garbled.
Antonyms: coherent, lucid, intelligible, organized.
Usage: David muttered something incoherent and rude and scrambled to his feet, fumbling for the sword.

6. STEWARD (noun) प्रबंधक
Meaning: a person employed to manage another’s property, especially a large house or estate.
Synonyms: manager, agent, custodian, caretaker.
Antonyms: intimidator, client, acolyte, subordinate.
Usage: The house steward, Donald, picked up her baggage from rear of the carriage.

7. DETENTE (noun) नरमी
Meaning:  the easing of hostility or strained relations, especially between countries.
Synonyms: agreement, peace, amity, concord.
Antonyms: disruptive, antagonism, antipathy, hostility.
Usage: The policy of detente was scrapped and the objective was increasingly to roll back the Soviet Union.

8. RIG (verb)  झाँसा
Meaning: manage or conduct (something) fraudulently so as to gain an advantage.
Synonyms: gerrymander, juggle, distort, misrepresent.
Antonyms: divest, disrobe, doff, deprive.
Usage: America has a long history of vote tampering and rigged elections in many local jurisdictions.

9. SMITE (verb) कष्ट देना 
Meaning: (especially of disease) attack or affect severely.
Synonyms:  afflict, attack, assail, harrow.
Antonyms: aid, comfort, inspirit, boost.
Usage: Various people had been smitten with untimely summer flu.

10. FURLOUGH (noun) लम्बी छुट्टी
Meaning: leave of absence, especially that granted to a member of the services or a missionary.
Synonyms: break, rest, recess, day off.
Antonyms: rehire, recall, travail, toil.
Usage: I have just learned that Cousin George has got his furlough extended thirty days.
