The members of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics was then known as the American Dietetic Association(ADA). The main aim of organizing National Nutrition Week was to highlight the significance of good nutrition to lead a healthy life. National Nutrition Week got a good response from the people of the USA. Inspired by the initiative of the United States of America the Indian Government also decided to celebrate its own National Nutrition Week. At that period of time most of the people in India were suffering from the problem of malnutrition. In 1982 National Nutrition Week was first time introduced in India.

The National Nutrition Week is commemorated to educate people about the healthy and nutritious food. Now-a-days people are more interested in knowing about good nutrition. In the year 2021 India secured 101st rank among 116 countries in the Global Hunger Index Report. Most of the deaths of children is caused due to Malnutrition. People should prefer healthy eating habits as nutritious foods can save us from several diseases. A healthy diet builds up our immunity and help us fight against diseases. If a person wants to remain healthy and fit then they must include all the important and required nutrients in their day-to-day diet.
