World Hepatitis Day 2022: Every year July 28 is observed as World Hepatitis Day. World Hepatitis Day is observed to make people know of a serious liver disease called Hepatitis. The causative agent of Hepatitis can be Bacteria, Viruses, or Parasites. On World Hepatitis Day people are made aware of the dangers of Hepatitis disease and the proper action that should be taken to prevent it. To make the world free from Hepatitis World Hepatitis Day was started by the World Health Organization(WHO). In the year 2007 The World Hepatitis Alliance was formed. World Hepatitis Day was first organized by the community in 2008. Earlier World Hepatitis Day was observed on the 19th of July. Later in the year 2010 it was decided to celebrate World Hepatitis Day on July 28. To honor the famous Nobel Prize winning scientist Baruch Samuel Blumberg his birthday 28th of July was chosen as to commemorate World Hepatitis Day. Baruch Samuel Blumberg was an American Physician and in 1967 he discovered the Hepatitis B Virus. Baruch Samuel Blumberg also invented the test and vaccine for Hepatitis B.

World Hepatitis Day 2022: Significance

World Hepatitis Day 2022 is celebrated to make public conscious about the perils of Hepatitis. One should have complete information regarding Hepatitis and the various ways through which we can prevent them. There are five primary strains A, B, C, D, E that are responsible for the Hepatitis Disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 354 million people in the world are suffering from  Hepatitis B and C. These all strains cause the same liver disease but their origin, transmission, and severity is different. Hepatitis can affect the people in several ways. A person affected with hepatitis show the symptoms like fatigue, stomach pain, fever, and sometimes due to this disease serious health problems like liver failure and brain damage can also happen. In some affected people no symptoms of hepatitis can be seen. To protect oneself from Hepatitis one should get its vaccination done. On World Hepatitis Day people are made aware about the effectiveness of Hepatitis vaccine. Several Health Campaigns and events are organized on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day.

World Hepatitis Day 2022 Theme is “Bringing Hepatitis Care Closer to You”. The Theme of World Hepatitis Day 2022 mainly highlights that there is a need to raise awareness among the public and make Hepatitis Care more approachable to them.  At present for many people treatment and testing of Hepatitis is not accessible. If Hepatitis Care is made possible then people can get better medical facility.
