International Youth Day 2020: History, Significance and Theme

International Youth Day: On 12th August International Youth Day is celebrated globally. History of International Youth Day

The General Assembly on 17th December 1999 endorsed that 12th August will be declared as International Youth Day all across the world to celebrate the young people’s choice, actions, as well as their initiatives and it, was first time celebrated in 2000. UN celebrates both Universal Children’s Day and  International Youth Day, which mainly focuses on tweens and teens and their place in society.  

Theme for IYD 2020

This year the theme for the International Youth Day is “Youth Engagement for Global Action” to highlight the ways young talents are engaged in enriching the national and multilateral institutions processes at local, national, and global levels. The objective of International Youth Day 2020 is to shed limelight onto the need of the engagement of the youth by making local, global and national institutions more inclusive in regards of strengthening their capacity and ability to achieve global action.
