Directions (6-10): Solve the following equations and mark the correct option given below.
Q6. I. 2x + 5y = 61
II. 3x + 4y = 60
if x>y
if x≥y
if y>x
if y≥x
if x=y or no relation can be established
Solution:
I. 2x + 5y = 61
II. 3x + 4y = 60
On solving
I & II x = 8,
y = 9 y > x
Q7. I. x² – 12x + 32 = 0
II. 2y² – 13y + 20 = 0
if x>y
if x≥y
if y>x
if y≥x
if x=y or no relation can be established
Solution:
I. x² – 12x + 32 = 0
x² – 8x– 4x + 32 = 0
x (x - 8)-4 (x - 8) = 0
(x - 4) (x – 8) = 0
x= 4, 8
II. 2y² - 13y + 20 = 0
2y² - 8y – 5y + 20 = 0
2y (y - 4) – 5 (y - 4) = 0
(2y - 5) (y - 4) = 0
y=5/2, 4 x ≥ y
Q8. I. 3x² – 4x – 20 = 0
II. 4y² + 21y + 27 = 0
if x>y
if x≥y
if y>x
if y≥x
if x=y or no relation can be established
Solution:
I. 3x² - 4x – 20 = 0
3x² - 10x + 6x – 20 = 0
x (3x - 10) +2 (3x - 10) = 0
(x + 2) (3x - 10) = 0
x= -2, 10/3
II. 4y² + 21y + 27 = 0
4y² + 12y + 9y + 27 = 0
4y (y + 3) + 9 (y + 3) = 0
(4y + 9) (y + 3) = 0
y= -9/4, -3 x > y
Q9. I. √((x-2)(x+3))=6
II. y² = 64
if x>y
if x≥y
if y>x
if y≥x
if x=y or no relation can be established
Solution:
I.√((x-2)(x+3) )=6
x² - 2x + 3x – 6 = 36
x² + x- 42 = 0
x² + 7x – 6x – 42 = 0
x (x + 7) – 6 (x + 7) = 0
(x - 6) (x+ 7) = 0
x = 6, -7
II. y² = 64
y = ± 8
No relation established between x and y
Q10. I. x² + 15x + 50 = 0 II. 2y² + 15y + 25 = 0
if x>y
if x≥y
if y>x
if y≥x
if x=y or no relation can be established
Solution:
I. x² + 15x + 50 = 0
x² + 10x + 5x + 50 = 0
x (x + 10) + 5 (x + 10) = 0
(x + 5) (x + 10) = 0
x = -5, -10
II. 2y² + 15y + 25 = 0
2y² + 10y + 5y + 25 = 0
2y (y + 5) + 5 (y + 5) = 0
(2y + 5) (y + 5) = 0
y= -5/2, -5 y≥x
