World Tuna Day 2022: Every year the 2nd of May is observed as World Tuna Day across the world. This day is celebrated to raise awareness about the overfishing of tuna and tuna-like species. Tuna and similar species are important fish both economically, and as a source of food. Their meat is rich in vitamins, and they serve as a vital resource for developed and developing countries. The tuna fish is wealthy in Omega 3, Vitamin B12, proteins, and other minerals.

World Tuna Day 2022 History

World Tuna Day was established in December 2016 by the United Nations General Assembly. It is observed annually on the 2nd of May, with an aim to preserve endangered species. The population of Tuna fish has declined by more than 97 percent due to overfishing and illegal fishing. As per the UN, around 7 million metric tons of tuna and tuna-like species are harvested every year. So that the UN has announced the 2nd of may as world tuna day to preserve the tuna.

The theme for World Tuna Day 2022 is “Our Tuna Our Heritage”. At present many countries are concerned with the conservation and administration of tuna which has an annual worth of around 10 billion USD.
