RBI Grade B Number of Attempts and Age Relaxation 2027, Category-Wise Eligibility Criteria

The Reserve Bank of India conducts the prestigious RBI Grade B exam every year to recruit officers for various departments. Before applying, candidates must clearly understand the number of attempts allowed and the age relaxation criteria, as these directly impact eligibility and preparation strategy.

RBI Grade B Number of Attempts & Age Relaxation 2027

RBI Grade B is one of the most competitive exams in India, and understanding eligibility rules is crucial before starting preparation. Knowing your attempt limit and age relaxation benefits helps you create a realistic strategy and timeline.

Number of Attempts in RBI Grade B

The RBI has set a limit on the number of attempts only for candidates belonging to the General category.

  • General Category: Maximum 6 attempts for Phase I (only Phase I appearances are counted).
  • SC/ST/PwBD: No restriction on the number of attempts, provided candidates fall within the prescribed age limit.
  • OBC: Also no specific attempt limit, but candidates must meet age criteria.

Important Note: An attempt is counted only when a candidate appears in Phase I exam. Simply filling out the form does not count as an attempt.

RBI Grade B Age Limit

  • Minimum Age: 21 years
  • Maximum Age: 30 years

Candidates must be within this age range as per the date mentioned in the official notification.

  • 2. General and EWS candidates cannot apply after completing six Phase 1 attempts.
  • 3. Reserved category candidates can appear without an attempt limit, subject to applicable conditions.
  • 4. Age relaxation is applicable only when candidates fulfil the prescribed category and eligibility requirements.
  • 5. Candidates must provide valid supporting certificates to claim age relaxation.
  • 6. The age calculation date may change with every recruitment cycle, so candidates should always check the latest notification.

Additional Conditions:

  • Banking and insurance experience must be as an officer in a Scheduled Commercial Bank, Public Sector Insurance Company or All India Financial Institution (AIFI).

RRB PO Section-Wise Strategy for the Last 15 Days

The following day-wise schedule covers important topics from both sections while providing sufficient time for mock tests and revision.

1. Reasoning Ability

With 40 questions and 25 minutes, candidates should prioritise manageable questions before attempting lengthy puzzles.

Important topics to revise:

  • Inequality and Syllogism
  • Seating Arrangements
  • Floor-Based and Box-Based Puzzles
  • Blood Relations and Direction
  • Order and Ranking
  • Coding-Decoding

Useful strategy: Spend the initial few minutes identifying easy questions. Before starting a puzzle, read all its conditions and assess its complexity. If it appears lengthy, move to another set and return later.

2. Quantitative Aptitude

Candidates get only 20 minutes to solve 40 questions. Therefore, calculation speed and question selection are particularly important.

Important topics to revise:

  • Simplification and Approximation
  • Number Series
  • Quadratic Equations
  • Data Interpretation
  • Percentage, Ratio and Average
  • Profit and Loss, SI and CI
  • Time and Work, Time and Distance

Useful strategy: Practise multiplication tables, squares, cubes and fraction-to-percentage conversions daily. Avoid spending excessive time on lengthy DI sets when shorter questions are available.

How to Analyse Mock Tests in the Last 15 Days?

Attempting mock tests without analysing mistakes will not improve performance significantly. After every mock, divide questions into four categories:

Performance What to Do
Correct and Fast Maintain regular practice
Correct but Slow Improve solving speed
Incorrect Answers Identify conceptual or calculation mistakes
Unattempted but Solvable Improve question selection

Mistakes to Avoid Before IBPS RRB PO Prelims 2026

  • Starting New Topics: Avoid lengthy and unfamiliar chapters during the final days.
  • Ignoring Sectional Timings: Practise with the actual 25-minute and 20-minute limits.
  • Attempting Every Puzzle: Select sets according to difficulty and your comfort level.
  • Taking Mocks Without Analysis: Understand why you lost marks instead of focusing only on scores.
  • Ignoring Accuracy: Avoid random guessing because every incorrect answer attracts a penalty.
  • Studying Until Late Night: Maintain a proper sleep schedule before the examination.

Common Mistakes to Avoid During SBI PO Interview Self-Introduction

Candidates should avoid the following mistakes while introducing themselves during the SBI PO Interview 2026:

  • Giving a Lengthy Introduction: Avoid narrating your complete academic and personal history.
  • Memorising Every Sentence: Over-rehearsed answers may sound artificial and lack natural expression.
  • Mentioning Unverified Achievements: Include only genuine qualifications, experiences, and accomplishments.
  • Using Generic Statements: Instead of simply claiming to be hardworking or confident, support your strengths with examples.
  • Sharing Irrelevant Information: Focus on details that help the panel understand your background and suitability.
  • Speaking Too Fast: Maintain a steady pace and pronounce words clearly.
  • Ignoring Follow-up Questions: Every detail mentioned in your introduction can become a potential interview question.

Benefits of Practising with IBPS RRB Previous Year Question Paper

As the prelims exam is conducted for 80 marks and requires solving these questions, the candidate is provided with 45 minutes, which does not even give 1 minute to 1 question. This means that you have to solve papers with a flashy speed. For that, there is only one solution; that is, solving as many practice papers or previous year papers. Besides this, there are many advantages to this practice, which are as follows-

  • Reduce Exam Anxiety: Solving old papers helps you feel more confident about exams.
  • Improve Accuracy and Speed: Practice enhances your ability to solve puzzles and reasoning questions quickly and correctly.
  • Prioritise Questions: You learn which questions to tackle first and which ones to skip if they take too long.
  • Learn Time Management: Develop skills to manage your time effectively during the IBPS RRB Prelims.
  • Identify Weak Areas: Assess your preparation level to pinpoint where you need to improve.

How to Analyse Your Performance After Solving IBPS RRB Papers

Solving IBPS RRB Previous Year Question Papers is not enough; candidates should also analyse their performance to understand their preparation level. After attempting each paper, review the questions carefully and identify the sections where you lost marks or spent more time. Candidates can follow these steps to evaluate their performance:

  • Check Your Overall Score: Calculate your marks to understand your current preparation level and track improvement across different papers.
  • Analyse Accuracy: Check the number of correct and incorrect answers to identify whether you are making conceptual mistakes or attempting questions in a hurry.
  • Identify Weak Sections: Review your performance in Reasoning and Quantitative Aptitude to find topics that require additional practice.
  • Evaluate Time Management: Check how much time you spent on each section and identify questions that took longer than necessary.
  • Review Incorrect Answers: Go through the solutions of every incorrect and unattempted question to understand the correct approach.
  • Track Your Progress: Maintain a record of scores, accuracy and time taken in every paper to monitor improvement and adjust your preparation strategy.

A well-presented appearance can help create a positive first impression before the interview panel. Both male and female candidates should prefer simple formal or business attire and avoid flashy clothing, excessive accessories and casual footwear.

SBI PO Interview Dress Code: Is There an Official Dress Code?

Candidates should understand that wearing a particular colour, outfit or style is not generally prescribed as a compulsory requirement for the SBI PO interview. The purpose of choosing formal attire is to maintain a neat and professional appearance before the interview panel. Any specific instructions mentioned in the interview call letter or official communication should always take priority.
