What Is Gazetted Officer?

Before diving into the question, first let’s try to understand about who exactly is a Gazetted officer? Gazetted officer is a post that is assigned to all those public servants wh holds executive/managerial level ranks in India. All the powers are vested by President of India or Governor of the State to the Gazetted Officer. The power and the ranks that is vested onto them makes them the de jure representatives and delegates of the Indian State and the President. The Gazetted officer is named so because the name of the person holding this executive/Ministerial rank is published in the Gazette of India or any State Government Gazette.

The Gazette of India and State Gazette are basically official Government Publications and the primary work of these publications is to publish the appointments or promotions of certain Government Officials. Once a person is selected to hold any Government officials post and is appointed under the seal of the Governor at State level or by the President of India at the national level (and in the Union Territories), he/she requires being listed in the Indian Gazette or State Government Gazette and is considered to be a Gazetted Officer.

Is Bank PO A Gazetted Officer?

Though candidates selected as a Bank Po works for the Public sector banks but the Parent Organisation i.e RBI is an independent organisations and doesn’t come under Government Of India directly. A candidated selected as a Bank PO is not considered to be working directly for the Government of India. The power vested on the Bank PO is not through the President or State Governor instead it is vested by the RBI. Also, another point to be noticed is the fact that the Gazetted Officers are those whose names are mentioned in the Gazette of India and Bank  officer’s names are not mentioned in Gazette India.
