JAIIB Exam Pattern 2022

JAIIB( Junior Associate of Indian Institute of Bankers) is one of the flagship courses conducted by the Indian Institute Of Banking And Finance(IIBF). This year IIBF is going to conduct the JAIIB exam of the November Session on the 12th, 13th, and 20th November 2022. IIBF provides the exam pattern for JAIIB. The main highlights of the JAIIB Exam 2022 are as given below:

  • The JAIIB Exam 2022 will be conducted in Online Medium only.
  • JAIIB Exam 2022 has three papers: Principles and Practices of Banking, Accounting and Finance for Bankers, Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Banking.
  • Each of the three papers will be having 120 multiple choice questions of 100 marks.
  • The time duration allotted to complete each paper will be 2 hours.
  • The exam paper will be bilingual i.e. both in English and Hindi Language.
  • There is no negative marking in the JAIIB Exam 2022.
  • Candidates need to score at least 45% marks in each subject and 50% marks in aggregate in a single attempt to qualify
  • Candidates need to pass this exam in 4 consecutive attempts within 2 years after doing registration for the JAIIB exam
  • If you are unable to qualify within this 2-year time limit then you have to re-enroll yourself
  • The time limit of 2 years will begin from the date of application for the first attempt to appear for the JAIIB Exam.

Module A: Regulations and Compliance

The first Module of Legal and Regulatory Aspects of Banking is Regulations and Compliance. Some of the Important Chapters of this module along with its topics are mentioned below.

  • Legal Framework of Regulation of Banks: Legal Framework of Regulation of Banks unit contain: Business of Banking ;Constitution of Banks;(RBI Act) Reserve Bank of India Act, 1934, Banking Regulation Act, 1949,  Reserve Bank of India’s role; Control over Co-operative Banks; Government as the Regulator of Banks; Regulation by other Authorities, etc.

Module B: Legal Aspects of Banking Operations

Legal Aspects of Banking Operations contains the below provided chapters:

  • Different Types of Borrowers: Different kinds of Borrowers including Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) is given in this topic.
  • Secured and Unsecured Loans, Registration of Firms and Incorporation of Companies: Secured and unsecured loans and talks of the need for Secured Loans; Registration of Firms; Consequences of Not Registering of Firms; Incorporation of a Company, etc. are dealt in the given topic.
  • Types of Credit Facilities: The main focus of this unit is on  what are the different types of Facilities like Cash Credit (CC), Overdraft (OD), Demand Loans (DL), Term Loans (TL), and Bill Finance.

Module C: Banking Related Laws

For a banking employee it is very necessary to know the Banking Related Laws. The third module of LRAB deals with the Banking Related Laws.

  • The Recovery of Debts and Bankruptcy Act, 1993 (RDB Act):  Various objectives of the Act, the Constitution of the Tribunals (DRTs), Procedures and Enforcement process, etc. are given in this topic.
  • Securitization and Reconstruction of Financial Assets and Enforcement of Securities Interest Act, 2002 (SARFAESI):  The concepts on Constitutional Validity; the Definitions of terms under the Act; Central Registry; Regulation and Reconstruction; Enforcement of Security Interest; Offences and Penalties for defaults and some other Miscellaneous Provisions are focused in this topic.
  • The Consumer Protection Act, 1986 and CERSAI (Central Registry of Securitization Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India): This unit deals with the ACT, the Extent and various Definitions and Objectives of CERSAI; Consumer Protection Councils; Consumer Disputes Redressal Agencies; and important provisions of CERSAI – Central Registry of Securitization Asset Reconstruction and Security Interest of India, etc.
  • Banking Ombudsmen Scheme: Banking Ombudsmen scheme deals about what is the purpose of the scheme; the Extent of its applicability; Definitions; Establishment; Powers and Procedure for Grievance Redressal.
  • The Legal Services Authorities Act, 1987: The Act takes us through the system of Lok Adalats – the Organization; the Jurisdiction; the Disposal of Cases and Awards, etc.
  • Tax Laws: The taxes like Income Tax Act; Commodity Transaction Tax; Service Tax Act, Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881 are mainly focused in this unit.
  • The Law of Limitation: Limitation Act defines what limitation is, how it is computed and some Important Provisions that are given in the schedule to the Limitation Act.
  • Payment and Settlements Systems Act, 2007: This act deals with the information regarding the applicability of the Act; definitions and some Important Provisions.
  • Bankers Books Evidence Act, 1891: This act deals about the applicability of the act; Definitions, and some Important Provisions under it.

Module D: Commercial Laws with reference to Banking Operations

The last Module of LRAB is related to the Commercial Laws with reference to Banking Operations. Some of its units and their topics are provided here:

  • The Sale of Goods Act, 1930: Different Features of the Act, concepts like Sale and Agreement to Sell, Express and Implied Contracts; Conditions and Warranties attached to a good; Rights of Unpaid Seller are the topics of this unit.
  • Indian Partnership Act, 1932:  Various Terms and Types of Partnerships; Relation of partners to one another and to 3rd Parties; how does a Minor gets admitted to the benefits of partnership; how the firm is Dissolved; Effect of non-registration; Limited liability partnerships (LLP) formation, registration, rights, and liabilities of partners are discussed in this unit.
  • Indian Contract Act, 1872:  The meaning and some essential terms and provisions of the contract and contains concepts like Contract of Indemnity and Rights of Indemnity Holder; Contract of Guarantee; Contract of Bailment; Contract of Pledge and Contract of Agency are the main highlights of this unit.
  • The Companies Act, 1956 (Now Companies Act, 2013): Various terms that come under this act, Features & Types of companies; Memorandum and Articles of Association (MOA & AOA); the concepts such as Doctrine of Ultra Vires, Constructive Notice, Indoor Management; Membership of Company, Acquisition, Cessation, Registration, Prospectus; Rights & Duties of Members, Directors; Winding up of Companies, etc. are dealt in this chapter.
  • Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999: Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA), 1999 includes some important Terms that are defined under the Act; Powers of Reserve Bank of India, Regulation & Management of Foreign Exchange; Directorate of Enforcement.
