About NCSK

The National Commission for Safai Karamcharis (NCSK) was established to investigate the conditions of Safai Karamcharis in India and make recommendations to the Government.
It is currently a non-statutory body under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The NCSK was originally established in 1993 under the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis Act, 1993, initially for a period up to 31 March 1997.
It was initially a statutory body, and the validity of the Act was subsequently extended up to 2002 and then 2004.
The NCSK Act ceased to have effect from 29 February 2004.
Since then, the Commission has continued as a non-statutory body, with its tenure being extended from time to time through government resolutions.
